Rókusfalvy Winery
Pál Rókusfalvy established the winery in the Etyek-Budai Wine-country (more precisely, in Etyek, Újhegy) in year 1999. (Only a few of us know that farmers of Etyek have grown grape on a huge area of land till the 1880’s in this environs. Still, Etyek is one of the youngest wine-districts of Hungary. The grape plantation of 1600 hectares, extending from Bicske to Pakozd, gained the title “wine-country” in 1990. According to the Wine Act of 1997, the name Etyek Wine-country has changed to Etyek-Budai Wine-country.) Two hectares of wine-lands belong to the winery. Riesling and Pinot Blanc are grown on ½ hectare each (the latter is not yielding yet). The remaining one hectare is uncultivated field, on which planting of Pinot Noir is in preparation
The winery is composed of three parts, lying next to each other: the presentation vault located in the press-house, a bottling vault and a refining vault.
Refining is carried out – after the process of stalking and soaking – with old, traditional wooden and modern, semi-automatic wine-presses. After the fermentation, the wine mellows in traditional oak casks with the cubic capacity of 2 hectolitres and steel tanks with that of 5-10 hectolitres, and it gets bottled in every spring, following the drawing-off. The wines are to taste in the Rókusfalvy Winery, the Etyek Inn and in some of the popular restaurants of Budapest.
Riesling was produced in the winery in 1999, 2000 and 2001. The wine of 2000 was awarded with a silver medal. In year 2002 Riesling (made of own grape), Szürkebarát, Chardonnay, Zöldvetelini and Yellow Muscatel (made of purchased grape) were produced.

Riesling: alcohol content: 11,5 %, acid: 6g/l, extracts: 21,1g/l
Szürkebarát: alcohol content: 13,8 %, acid: 6g/l, extracts: 25,2g/l
Chardonnay: alcohol content: 13,5 %, acid: 6,5g/l, extracts: 26,8g/l
Zöldvetelini: alcohol content: 13,5 %, acid: 5,3g/l, extracts: 20,6g/l
Yellow Muscatel: alcohol content: 12,8 %, acid: 8,1g/l, extracts: 36,1g/l
Riesling (made of own grape), Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir (made of purchased grape) were produced in year 2003.

Pál Rókusfalvy, the musician
"It started very early. I was lucky, because I was the only one among six children who has held to music. I started playing the piano at the age of seven, on the solicitation of my parents. I was extremely happy, when I was admitted to the brass band of the Pioneer Railway and I started playing the trumpet. I felt how much easier it made learning music that I had already got acquainted with the piano, the base of all musical instruments. I got associated with a lot of wind instruments during my teens – I learnt playing the trumpet, the tenor-horn, the tuba, the helicon and finally, the posan. I played as an instrumentalist of the brass band of Ganz-Mávag and in other brass orchestras as well. During my secondary school years I established more bands, in which I played the guitar, the bass guitar and I sang as well. As a member of the legendary opera company, led by József Sass, I played the title-role in Haydn’s “Apothecary” and Weber’s “Abu Hassan”. In 1982, it was my task to arrange the sixth-formers’ dance. I invoked my friends and schoolmates, with whom we established the Stúdium Dixieland Band – thus, we found the programme to the ball. Following the success at school, our pianist, Gergo Prohle entered us for “Ki mit tud”, the greatest talent show at the time. We won the competition, and thus we gained nationwide repute. Here did we make friends with Mariann Falussy (Pa-dö-dö), who has been our guest and singer for years.
In addition to the extraordinarily numerous inland concerts, we had a lot of shows in many countries worldwide. We have been invited to almost all of Europe’s important jazz clubs. We were participants of numerous international festivals from England to Denmark, from Bulgaria to Lithuania from Cuba to the Canary-islands.
We entered and passed the professional musician examination (ORI, OSZK) in year 1984. In 1987, we received the Public Award of the Hayfield Jazz Festival, as “the first Eastern-European band”. Our first and unfortunately only album, bearing the title “Exactly Like Us”, came out in 1991. In year 1992 my recrudescent asthma meant a physical difficulty in playing music, thus, following serious struggles, I decided to leave the musical profession; the band stopped giving concerts and dissolved. Many of my former fellow musicians are still playing. Recently, I have often appeared with them on concerts, in different formations, because I love this genre and music in general.

Music has always been a great help for me. During my teaching years, the school has “ran out of music teachers” and thus, I taught the students to music for a year. The same time I attended a complementary music teachers’ class, but I left it unfinished, because, due to the irreconcible scheduling problems between teaching and the musician profession, I chose music. But these years of teaching will be an unforgettable period of my life, just like the 10 years of the musician’s life. Jazz and Dixieland are like cycling – it is impossible to forget it. As long as I have my mouth and hands, I am sure that I will be glad to enter any formation in anywhere worldwide to “jam” a bit. If I could choose a place and time for myself, I would like to start it again at the beginning of the last century, in America, as the posanist of a band in New Orleans."
